I like weird movies and this definitely fits that definition. It's a few steps beyond 'quirky', but I still found it charming. I like it when movies take chances, and I think this gamble paid off.
Sorry To Bother You tells the story of a man eager to get out of his impoverished predicament. He's got no money. He drives a borrowed car with smoke pouring from his engine. He needs a job immediately, so he goes into telemarketing. Soon, the company realizes his 'white voice' is a hit and they have a salesman extraordinaire in their ranks! But his coworkers are trying to unionize and his success is too alluring. Will he sell them out for his new found fame? As things get crazy, he has many choices to make as he keeps going farther down the rabbit hole.
Yes, it's strange and might even take things a bit too far into the odd. But the humor is great and the symbolism is fantastic. It's an interesting story with some deep characters and some cool concepts. It's DEFINITELY not for anyone. It's deeply political, strange, and many times over the top. But even so, it's not unrealistic. You can see how much the caricature reflects our reality. From the crazy TV shows to the funny conversations, they make light of dark realities. If you like odd quirkiness in movies, you'll probably like this one. Personally, I really liked it.
